In partnership with the James Foley Foundation, this event will offer WABJ members tips and resources on how to remain safe when covering political violence and conflict.
Panelists will offer insight into how to prepare for covering conflict (such as points of contact both on the ground and back in the newsroom; exit strategies; and legal rights should law enforcement become involved); tactical safety gear journalists may be interested in owning; and how they themselves have stayed safe in the field when violence has broken out.
Why this is important: As the 2024 election nears, we are reminded of the events that took place after 2020’s election on Jan. 6. It is our goal to ensure our members are prepared should such an event happen again in 2025.
