Post-Election Message From WABJ President Khorri Atkinson

Greetings, WABJ members and friends.

As we transition to a new U.S. political administration, I want to thank our members who have been on the frontlines documenting yet another consequential presidential election season. Your unwavering commitment in using your skills and unique backgrounds to tell stories to foster accountability, shape public understanding, and inspire is a profound responsibility we hold as journalists.

The pressure of reporting during this critical period in our country’s history can be overwhelming. It’s even more challenging as we strive to navigate through the noise amid rising digital misinformation and the public’s evolving media consumption attitudes.

Challenging days are ahead. Some of you will walk back into the exhaustive, non-stop beat covering another unorthodox presidency of Donald Trump, who has constantly demeaned members of the press, expressed anti-democratic sentiments, and restricted access to those who provided unfavorable coverage.

Rest assured, WABJ remains even more committed to our cause as we enter our 50th year in 2025. We recognize that the work of our members goes beyond mere headlines or bylines. The significance of the Fourth Estate and the role it plays in pursuit of truth and defending democracy cannot be overstated.

The support within this organization is invaluable, so let us lean on and uplift each other. Together, we can navigate challenging times. Keep asking the hard questions and know that your work, though oftentimes thankless and difficult, holds great significance to the communities we serve.

In solidarity and hope. Onward we go!

Yours in Service,

Khorri A. Atkinson
