Allison Seymour Named 2024 WABJ Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient

Washington, D.C. – Today, the Washington Association of Black Journalists (WABJ) proudly announced that Allison Seymour, morning co-anchor for WUSA9, is the 2024 recipient of the WABJ Lifetime Achievement Award. This award honors journalists with over 15 years of experience who have significantly contributed to the enrichment and advancement of Black life and culture in Washington, D.C.

Seymour will be recognized at the WABJ Special Honors & Scholarship Gala on Saturday, December 7 at the Blackburn University Center, Howard University. Tickets are available for purchase.

Since 1999, Seymour has been on the anchor desk and covered critical stories, including the 9/11 terror attacks, the DC sniper attacks, the disappearance of Relisha Rudd, and the COVID-19 pandemic. The longevity of her work exemplifies her deep commitment to community and forging a path for the next generation of Black journalists. 

An Emmy award-winning anchor, Seymour is also a passionate supporter of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). She earned her bachelor’s degree from Hampton University, where she is honored in the Mass Media Hall of Fame, and her Master’s in Mass Communication from the University of South Carolina. She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and Jack and Jill of America.

“Allison Seymour exemplifies reporting excellence,” the WABJ Awards Review Committee said. “She has been a steadfast presence in the D.C. media landscape for 25 years, serving at two of the city’s leading television stations.”

Outside of her career, Seymour is a devoted wife to her husband Marc and a loving mother to their three daughters and two shelter puppies.
