Washington, D.C. – The Washington Association of Black Journalists (WABJ) is pleased to announce that Michael Franklin, Founder and Chief Thought Leadership Officer of Words Normalize Behavior LLC, will receive the 2024 WABJ Excellence in Communications Award. This prestigious award recognizes Franklin’s trailblazing contributions to the field, innovative initiatives, and unwavering commitment to amplifying diverse voices.
Franklin will be honored at the 3rd annual WABJ Special Honors & Scholarship Gala on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2024, at the Blackburn University Center, Howard University. Early-bird tickets for the gala are now available for purchase here.
“Michael Franklin’s work in Communications has been truly transformative,” said the WABJ Awards Review Committee. “His dedication to fostering open and honest communication has not only strengthened collaboration within organizations but has also enhanced relationships with external stakeholders across various sectors.”
As the co-founder and executive director of Speechwriters of Color and founder of Words Normalize Behavior LLC (WNB), a Black and Gen Z-owned and certified LGBT Business Enterprise, Franklin has demonstrated a deep understanding of diverse perspectives and an ability to articulate thoughts effectively. Speechwriters of Color is a global community of expert and aspiring communicators. WNB provides executive communications, strategy, and speechwriting services to clients in higher education, political advocacy, corporate social responsibility, sports and entertainment, and philanthropy.
Franklin’s commitment to mentorship and professional development has empowered countless individuals to excel in their careers and contribute meaningfully to public dialogue. His work consistently reflects a deep commitment to truth, equity, and empowerment, whether addressing social justice issues, advocating for policy changes, or inspiring communities through speechwriting and communications strategy.
Recently recognized on Washington Life Magazine’s 2024 Movers & Shakers list, Franklin’s impact has been widely acknowledged. His work has been featured in several publications, and he has made notable TV appearances, further cementing his status as a leading voice in communications.
Franklin’s innate gift of storytelling, commitment to continuous improvement, and ability to adapt his communication style to different audiences demonstrate his versatility and effectiveness as a true communication expert.
